Carey Olsen is pleased to announce that it has promoted six lawyers to the partnership, with effect from 1 July 2025. The new partners are Alexander Collis (Corporate, Bermuda), Graham Stoute (Trusts and Private Wealth, Cayman Islands), Dhanshuklal Vekaria (Litigation, Hong Kong SAR), Katherine Tresca (Corporate, Jersey), Matthew Ecobichon (Corporate, Jersey) and Nick Ghazi (Corporate, Jersey).
Alex is a member of Carey Olsen Bermuda’s corporate and finance team. He advises on the structuring, negotiation and execution of complex corporate, finance and regulatory transactions across a range of sectors, with a particular emphasis on insurance. He also advises on Bermuda’s corporate income tax regime and economic substance requirements, guiding clients through the jurisdiction’s evolving regulatory landscape and cross-border compliance obligations.
Graham is based in Carey Olsen’s Cayman Islands office and advises private and institutional clients on the establishment, re-organisation and administration of Cayman and British Virgin Islands trusts and trust structures, including STAR and VISTA trusts, private trust and foundation companies, commercial trust arrangements and charitable trusts. Graham advises generally on wills and estate/succession planning, probate and resealing applications, the administration of complex estates and a range of regulatory matters, including AEOI planning and compliance, data protection, financial sanctions and beneficial ownership registers.
Dhan joined the firm’s dispute resolution and insolvency practice in Hong Kong in 2018, having previously practiced in the Cayman Islands. He has a broad range of experience in Cayman Islands, BVI and Bermuda offshore proceedings, regularly advising and acting on matters including cross-border disputes involving both private and publicly listed offshore corporates in relation to restructuring, insolvency and winding up. He also has extensive experience in corporate fund disputes acting for funds, investors and financing parties; private client trusts disputes acting for beneficiaries, trustees and settlors; fair valuation disputes; asset tracing and asset preservation matters; enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards; and shareholder and joint venture disputes.
Katherine’s practice covers a broad area of Jersey corporate law, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions (both private and public, including via members’ schemes of arrangement), equity capital markets transactions (including US and UK IPOs) and downstream private equity transactions. Katherine joined Carey Olsen in 2010, having trained and qualified as a solicitor in Scotland. She is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh (LLB, 2006). She is an Advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey and also a member of the Law Society of Scotland (solicitor; currently non-practising).
Matthew has been with Carey Olsen in Jersey for 21 years, advising clients including leading international law firms and global institutions on a range of structured finance, securitisation and high yield transactions. Matthew has extensive experience with listing specialist debt securities on TISE and regularly advises on transactions involving Eurobonds and other TISE listed securities, including high yield, asset backed securities and variable funding notes. Matthew qualified as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2007 and became an Advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey in 2009.
A fellow member of the firm’s Jersey corporate team, Nick’s practice focuses on all aspects of debt finance, in particular fund finance, real estate finance, leveraged finance and restructurings. He has particular expertise advising financial institutions and funds on a wide range of fund financing transactions, including subscription line facilities, NAV facilities, hybrids, umbrella facilities and GP co-invest facilities. Nick joined Carey Olsen in 2017, having previously worked with Addleshaw Goddard and having also spent five years working in various commercial roles with RBS. Nick qualified as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2014 and became an Advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey in 2024.
