CAREY OLSEN: Five Carey Olsen lawyers star in Asian Legal Business Offshore Client Choice list 2025

Press Release from Carey Olsen, Friday 30 May, 2025.

Carey Olsen partners Tim Haynes, Helen Wang and Matthew Watson, and counsel Kate Lan and Amelia Tan have featured in the Asian Legal Business (“ALB”) Offshore Client Choice list for 2025.

Based on direct feedback from clients and partner law firms, ALB’s Offshore Client Choice list identifies offshore lawyers who have established the strongest client connections and have achieved significant recognition across Asia. This year Carey Olsen has the greatest number of individuals named on the list, with 20 offshore lawyers recognised by ALB in total, and is the only firm with counsel recognised in addition to partners.

Head of Carey Olsen’s dispute resolution and litigation team in Hong Kong, Tim Haynes has over twenty-six years’ experience representing a wide range of Asia Pacific-based clients in all aspects of commercial dispute resolution, from corporate shareholders and liquidators to high-net-worth individuals. Tim is ranked in Chambers Asia Pacific and Chambers Global and has been praised by clients as “a super experienced practitioner, balancing technical excellence against sage commercial advice about whether a particular suit or application is worthwhile”.

Helen Wang is a partner in Carey Olsen’s litigation, insolvency and restructuring practice in Singapore, specialising in complex commercial litigation, shareholder disputes, estate and private clients related disputes, fraud and investigatory cases, and insolvency and restructuring matters. Helen has been listed as a Next Generation Partner in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific and a Rising Star in China Business Law Journal’s A-List of elite private practice lawyers in the Chinese market. Clients have praised her “excellent legal knowledge and commercial sense”, describing her as “extremely personable, super responsive and hard working”.

Hong Kong dispute resolution and litigation partner Matthew Watson is highly regarded for his practice in Bermuda law, which focuses on advising high-net-worth clients and major corporations in insolvency and restructuring contexts, as well as complex commercial, corporate, and trust and estate litigation. He has been named among ALB’s Top Offshore Litigators and is ranked by The Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners, where he has been described as “leading the charge on the client side” and “an absolute delight to work with: incredibly hard-working, excellent commercial brain, superb attention to detail and a first-rate lawyer”.

Counsel in Carey Olsen’s litigation, insolvency and restructuring practice in Singapore, Kate Lan has extensive experience advising clients across a broad spectrum of cross-border litigation and international arbitration matters. She has been listed as a Leading Associate in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific and is consistently named in ALB’s Offshore Client Choice List, with clients describing her as “sharp”, “commercially savvy” and “highly responsive, with rock solid dependability and always ready to go the extra mile”.

Singapore counsel Amelia Tan has a broad range of experience in commercial litigation, with a focus on complex, multi-jurisdictional shareholder litigation, corporate disputes, fraud and asset tracing, and cross-border insolvency and restructuring matters. She has been named a Leading Associate by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific for three consecutive years and featured in ALB’s Offshore Client Choice 2024 list.
