Former Sky News Editor and Formula 1 Team Head to Share Insights at Jersey Finance Flagship Conference

Press Release from Jersey Finance, Monday 8 July, 2024.

A former renowned diplomatic editor for Sky News and one of the most successful women in Formula 1 history are to take to the stage at this year’s Jersey Finance annual private wealth conference.

Entitled ‘Beyond the Permacrisis’, the one-day conference in London on 24 September will examine how history, geopolitics and technological revolutions shape wealth dynamics.

Keynote speaker Tim Marshall will be sharing insights gleaned over a 30-year journalistic career covering major news events, including those gained from reporting in Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia during the Balkan wars in the 1990s and covering conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria. In addition to having held the diplomatic editor position at Sky News, he is also the acclaimed author of ‘Prisoners of Geography’ and ‘The Future of Geography: How Power and Politics in Space Will Change Our World.’.

His expertise will provide a deep understanding of why nation-states exist, the nature of borders, and how physical, cultural and political characteristics define the world. Closing the London event will be Claire Williams who is one of the most successful women in Formula 1 history. Claire is one of only two women to head a Formula 1 racing team in the modern era, leading the Williams Formula 1 team to top-five finishes two years in a row. Today, she is a global Brand Ambassador for WAE Technologies, focussing on the decarbonisation of heavy transport through advanced, sustainable, green technologies. Claire’s journey in a male-dominated industry and her current work in sustainability will offer invaluable insights into leadership innovation, and the future of technology.

The event will also garner opinion from an experienced group of wealth management professionals who will look at the opportunities and challenges facing the global private client industry in 2024 and beyond during two panel debates: ‘Thriving in Times of Geopolitical Turbulence’ will explore the effect of global events on wealth management, while ‘AI Revolution: Transforming Wealth Dynamics’ will examine AI’s potential in wealth creation and distribution.

Once again staged at The Brewery conference venue in central London, the event will also include an introduction and keynote address from Joe Moynihan, Chief Executive Officer, Jersey Finance.

Commenting, Joe said: “Recent times have been defined by instability and volatility both at market level and in terms of geopolitics while the digital revolution is prompting increasing questions around how individuals, business and financial institutions operate and transact. This event will explore where these dynamics intersect while also examining how international finance centres, like Jersey, should equip themselves to meet the evolving needs of the private wealth community.

“I am delighted too that, alongside our panels of expert speakers, the audience will have the opportunity to hear from our high calibre speakers, Tim Marshall and Claire Williams OBE, who will no doubt book end the day with thought-provoking insights. ”More than 400 delegates, the vast majority from London and the wider UK, are expected to attend the event on Tuesday 24 September which will include a networking reception before and afterwards. Sponsors are Affinity Private Wealth, Bedell Cristin, Carey Olsen, Crestbridge Family Office Services, HIGHVERN, InvestecBank (Channel Islands) Ltd., Lloyds Bank International, Standard Chartered, VG and Walkers.
